FORAGERS
On View May 9 - July 12, 2025
In FORAGERS, six artists examine the ways we gather and carry experience - how memory, observation, and materiality shape our understanding of self and place. Through painting, mixed media, and installation, these artists explore the act of collecting, whether it’s the impressions left by fleeting moments, the textures of relationships, or the rhythms of the natural world. Some look to landscapes as reflections of inner and outer worlds, while others distill abstract emotions into form, mapping connections between perception, time, and transformation. Together, their work invites us to reflect on our own acts of gathering - the ways we garner meaning, weave together our histories, and find ourselves as vessels of countless collections of experiences.
This group exhibition features the work of Theresa Clowes, Ben Strawn, Kim Ferrer, Virginia Steck, Matt Christie, and Jamie Gray.

THERESA CLOWES
THERESA CLOWES’ recent body of work continues a decade-long exploration of the complicated and strange predicament of having too much water and not enough simultaneously. Exploring concepts of balance, interconnectedness, and environmental resilience, Clowes bridges material, data, and theory to deepen our understanding of water’s vital role in the world.
VIRGINIA STECK
Rich with life and color, VIRGINIA STECK’s work reflects the resilience of both nature and the human spirit - how wildflowers thrive in unexpected places and how people continuously grow and explore. Rejected polished self-control and rigid planning, her untamed landscapes embrace the power of intuition, play, compassion, and openness tot he world.
BEN STRAWN
BEN STRAWN’s abstract figurative paintings serve as portals to boundless realms. Through vibrant hues and dynamic lines, he constructs a narrative that unfolds across horizons, transcends time, and evokes a spectrum of emotions. Strawn’s work immerses the audience in a world of abstract expression, encouraging contemplation of the connections between perception, emotion, and imagination.
KIM FERRER
KIM FERRER presents a body of work that explores the complex history of how relationships are formed, looking to systems in the natural and man-made realm as metaphors for our collective consciousness. Through wood, porcelain, and thread, Ferrer seeks to expose the patterns, textures, and emotions woven into the human experience - exploring connections to ourselves, others, and our natural world.
MATT CHRISTIE
MATT CHRISTIE’s work is rooted in his experiences of nature, reflecting on the deep influence of fields, forests, streams, and ponds that he has encountered throughout his life. For him, landscape serves as a bridge between inner and outer nature - a metaphor for psychological exploration and personal growth. Through his imagery, he navigates opposing themes of death and renewal, threat and safety, loneliness and connection.
JAMIE GRAY
JAMIE GRAY’s installations reflect a lifetime of closely observing Western landscapes. She collects visual memories like treasure: pebbles in a river’s bend, the textured bark of trees, wild mushrooms, or the sky during a summer monsoon. Gray abstracts these recollections into shapes, colors, and patterns. Rooted in formalism, materiality, and contemplative mark-making, her wall sculptures express the tranquility and balance found in nature.
