Celebrations

Day dreams are an engine of creativity, taking stimulus from the real world an integrating it with our dreams and insights to create a vision, a goal that we aspire to, or simply a pleasant escape.  These daydreams may distract us from real problems, relive special moments or celebrations, or simply recall memories that are meaningful to us in the moment.

These insightful waking dreams are how I start each new work, something triggers a thought, then another, and another, and by following that chain of ephemeral insights, I begin to visualize the final work.  This creative discovery process can be rapid, almost like a time lapse video, or may take shape over days or even weeks. While my art is physically in two dimensions, the rich depth of imagery is a direct result of those daydreams in three dimensions, and sometimes as with these works, there is a true tactile component to the image, coming full circle with a physical manifestation of that initial waking dream.

The ability to think and visualize in three dimensions is a valuable skill when working on commissions for public spaces, offices and homes. The UV Fluxprint process used for the Rose Chandelier is an example of dreaming about how to create a tactile and compelling visual experience. This new media I developed was first exhibited at the Adobe Max Conference in October 2023..
